"Afternoons and Coffeespoons" by Crash Test Dummies
Not too many people can get into the deep-throated vocals of Brad Roberts, who fronts Canadian pop rock band Crash Test Dummies. Everyone remembers them for their unlikely breakout hit, "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm", which hummed at #4 in 1994. Spurred by the success of this single, their album "God Shuffled His Feet" went to #9 and sold over 2 million copies. I thought the upbeat follow-up single, "Afternoons & Coffeespoons", was even better. Not quirky enough to stand out, perhaps, but such a bright and sunny tune.
