"I Can't Remember" by The Thorns

The Thorns were a short-lived supergroup combining the talents of 90s popsters Matthew Sweet, Shawn Mullins, and Pete Droge. They released a single self-titled record in 2003 that honors the harmonies of bands like Crosby, Stills and Nash and The Eagles.

While it didn't chart, many might remember their terrific cover of "Blue," originally done by The Jayhawks. "I Can't Remember" is another great cut from this easy-going record that somehow got buried upon his release. It's a shame the collaboration didn't last, as their harmonies are incredible.

"Save It For A Rainy Day" by The Jayhawks

I am astonished to discover that The Jayhawks have never had a single top 100 hit, not even some of their more familiar numbers from when they broke through in the 1990s, like "Waiting For The Sun" and "Blue."

This folk rock outfit has amassed a large collection of fan favorites, but their talent for melody and harmony comes through the best on 2003's "Rainy Day Music," which I consider to be their masterpiece. There's hardly any filler on this record at all, and "Save It For A Rainy Day" is just one of many standout tracks.

"Good Day" by Buffalo Nickel

It's too difficult to find information about the Atlanta-based band called Buffalo Nickel, who released their album called "Longplay 33 1/3" in 2000. It shouldn't be so hard because in a just musical world this roots rock band would have blown up big time. Not only did they have a collection of outstanding, heartfelt songs, they also had some big time contributors including drummer Kenny Aronoff, Gary Louris (Jayhawks), Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), and the Lennon brothers from Venice.

One of the best records of the decade in my opinion, "Longplay 33 1/3" is a terrific listen from start to finish. "Good Day" is just one of many highlights.
